We are a wellbeing organisation for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, plus (LGBTQIA+) people.
Our social enterprise is based in Middlesbrough, in the North East of England, and supports LGBTQIA+ people with mental and physical health.
We have three weekly sessions at The Live Well Centre in the Dundas Shopping Centre:
Tuesday: 5.30-7pm TAI CHI
Thursday: 5.30-7pm STRENGTH TRAINING
Friday: 6-9pm QUEER YOGA & SOCIAL
Our Tuesday and Thursday sessions are part of our LGBTQIA+ Strength and Stretch project funded by The National Lottery and Sport England.
Our Friday sessions are part of our Lavender Lounge project funded by The National Lottery Community Fund and Middlesbrough Council.
Our work would not be possible without the support of The National Lottery Community Fund; Middlesbrough Council; and The National Lottery and Sport England. Thank you to our funders:
The classes are open to beginners to yoga, with a focus on breath-led movement. If you can breathe, you can do yoga! Yoga is not about being able to stand on your head or touch your toes. The postures, or ‘asana’, are just one of the Eight Limbs of Yoga, which comes from Ancient India. Yoga is about:
Coming home to your breath
Developing mind-body awareness
Making space in the body, to make space in the mind for ‘what is’
Curiosity for self-enquiry and paying attention to the now
Anti-Racism
We are striving to create a space where LGBTQIA+ people can attend as their whole selves and honour their various intersecting identities. We acknowledge that our anti-racism journey is only just beginning. In order to create a safer space for global majority participants, we are currently working with organisations further along their own anti-racism journey to take advice on how to improve our procedures and projects. We respect the Ancient Indian roots of yoga and acknowledge the work of global majority people throughout history to help fight for equal rights for all in the LGBTQIA+ community.
